From any vantage point, the view at Viewmont High School is bright, and a 130,000-square-foot renovation expanded these views with a striking glass-filled entrance lobby and exterior plaza. The renovation addressed Davis School District’s top priorities for the aging high school, incorporating multiple programming and design options that reflected stakeholder input and provided effective solutions for the school.
The result is a cohesive, secure front entrance lobby and exterior plaza, leading directly from new visitor parking through a controlled vestibule into the public areas of the building. Carefully phased construction ensured that the renovation minimized disruption to student education and safety, aligning with the district’s priorities. The school’s facade underwent a significant transformation with a modernized glass-and-metal exterior. A 24-foot-wide circulation spine was introduced, stretching through the building to the new main entry and connecting previously inaccessible north parking areas to the student commons and dining area. Additionally, the school’s science labs were redesigned with upgraded technology and casework.
The renovation was completed in October 2018, expanding horizons, both literally and metaphorically, for the proud Viewmont Vikings.
