Nestled in the serene landscape of Utah, the Stoddard Mountain Yoga Retreat was envisioned as a peaceful sanctuary for meditation, yoga, and relaxation. Designed to foster a deep connection to nature, the retreat was planned as a community-inspired collection of buildings where the client’s family and guests could gather in an environment that nurtures both body and mind.

The retreat consists of a Main Lodge, Meditation Center, bunk Houses, and a garage. Each structure was carefully positioned to balance privacy with accessibility, maintaining a cohesive retreat atmosphere while respecting the site’s natural topography and preserving views of the surrounding mountain range.

The Main Lodge was designed with three interconnected areas: a private wing for the client’s residence, including three bedrooms, a kitchen, and indoor and outdoor dining spaces; a central section with a multipurpose yoga/exercise/theater room, game room, and support spaces; and a guest wing featuring six bedroom suites. These spaces are linked by a central hallway leading to the main entrance, reception, and lounge area. A defining architectural feature is the lodge’s combination of pitched zinc roofs, and a flat, wood-decked section designed as an open-air yoga platform.

The bunk Houses provide additional accommodations, each divided into two wings of eight bunk-style bedrooms, a central restroom and shower area, and a dining and multipurpose space. The Meditation Center, a dedicated space for yoga and mindfulness, embraces an open design to frame breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Natural materials enhance the retreat’s sense of tranquility, with interiors finished in fragrant pine wood and exteriors clad in light-colored GFRC with two complementary textures. Thoughtful site planning ensured that the retreat harmonized with the land, minimizing earthwork while maximizing the serenity of its setting.
