1st place winner of REFER Infraestruturas de Portugal design competition
The General Torres Train Station design, a first-place winner in a prestigious design competition, presents a visionary concept that reimagines the station’s functionality and aesthetics. Though this project did not move forward to construction, it offers an innovative approach to improving circulation, safety, and connection to the surrounding environment.
The existing station, originally built in 1994, was a box-like structure located far from the platform access. The winning design proposed relocating the station above the platforms, placing it closer to the access points, and creating a more efficient flow of movement.
The design concept features three distinct parts: two segments extending the roof of the new platform and a central section that serves as the main entrance. This layout enhances station functionality while offering a bold architectural statement. This project was designed in collaboration with architect Pedro Balonas.
