Located in Porto’s Bonfim district, the Barros Lima Guest House reimagines a historic single-family home as a welcoming retreat for travelers. The project involved a complete interior remodel, transforming the residence into two small tourist apartments while preserving key architectural elements.
The renovation made use of the basement level and introduced a new mansard-style upper floor, expanding the building’s functionality. The original wooden staircase was carefully retained, with floor heights adjusted to accommodate the new program. To maintain a strong connection to the existing architecture, new wooden floors were introduced in alignment with the proportions of the exterior openings—particularly along the main façade.
Balancing preservation and renewal, Barros Lima Guest House offers a contemporary stay that respects Porto’s architectural heritage. This project was designed in collaboration with Filipa Ribeiro.
